Floods Along the Russian River

This picture was taken along the access road to the Odd Fellows Recreation Club, 5 miles north of Guerneville, CA, on the Russian River, Decemeber 31, 2005. Electricity went out at 7:00 P.M. with predictions of staying off for a week or more. By the morning, January 1, 2006, the river had risen approximately 3 more feet and it was raining very hard. We (my wife, her sister and brother-in-law) decide to vacate the premises and barely made it out of the park over the unsurfaced evacuation route. Many local roads were closed with downed power lines and or tree limbs. As we drove home we were stopped on our way to Middletown and had to return to Highway 101 (15 mile detour) and go north to Highway 20 and across the north side of Clear Lake to Interstate 5 and the north to our home at Redding. We got home at dark-thirty, driving all day in heavy rains.
