This totem pole was at a Geocache called "Lil Marah". The totem was built by a fellow named John Welsh and is retired from the U.S. Forest Service - I knew him when I was working for the USFS - have not seen him for several years. We then wandered down to Manton on the back roads, having an enjoyable drive through the country side. We saw some of the fire damage at Manton due to last fall's "Manton Fire". However, since the rain things are getting green and looking O.K. We concluded our little drive by going to Red Bluff and then up I-5, back to Redding. We found four geocaches today. I'm having too much fun! When we got home and got lunch out of the way, I took down the outside Christmas lights and helped Nola put the Christmas stuff back up in the garage attic. Getting myself prepared to watch USC & Texas do battle in the Rose Bowl.

More Geocaching Fun

<img style="FLOAT: right; Electricity went out at 7:00 P.M. with predictions of staying off for a week or more. By the morning, January 1, 2006, the river had risen approximately 3 more feet and it was raining very hard. We (my wife, her sister and brother-in-law) decide to vacate the premises and barely made it out of the park over the unsurfaced evacuation route. Many local roads were closed with downed power lines and or tree limbs. As we drove home we were stopped on our way to Middletown and had to return to Highway 101 (15 mile detour) and go north to Highway 20 and across the north side of Clear Lake to Interstate 5 and the north to our home at Redding. We got home at dark-thirty, driving all day in heavy rains.

A great bridge on old historic Highway 99, along the Sacramento River between Redding and Mt.
